How it works
Punctuation is stripped from the edges, not the middle
So “Hello,” “hello!” and “hello” all count as the same word, while “don’t” and “state-of-the-art” stay whole. Stripping punctuation everywhere would split contractions and hyphenated words into pieces that never appear in the text.
Common words are filtered, and the list is short on purpose
A long stop-word list starts removing words that matter in some documents — “can” and “will” are filler in prose and meaningful in a specification. The list here covers only words that are filler almost everywhere, so the filtering stays predictable.

Ranked with a bar for each
The top forty words, ordered by count, each with a bar showing its share relative to the most frequent. Repetition is easier to spot as a shape than as a column of numbers.
Filler on or off
One checkbox. Leave it on to see the words that carry meaning; turn it off if you genuinely need the raw counts including “the” and “and”.

Practical advice
Getting a better result
- A word appearing far more than the rest is usually either your topic or a crutch. Reading the top five aloud is a quick way to tell which.
- For SEO work, the keyword density checker shows the same counts as percentages and can count two- and three-word phrases.
- Very short texts produce noisy lists — everything appears once. It gets useful somewhere above a few hundred words.

Are “Word” and “word” counted together?
Yes. Everything is lowercased before counting, so capitalisation at the start of a sentence does not split a word into two entries.
Which words are treated as common?
A short list of articles, pronouns, prepositions and auxiliary verbs — the words that top every frequency list in English regardless of subject. It is deliberately short so the filtering does not remove anything you might have been looking for.
