What a 25 minute timer is good for

A pomodoro

The standard focus session of the pomodoro technique.

Writing sprints

Enough time to draft a section without stopping to edit.

Inbox sessions

Clear email in a fixed block instead of all day.

Tip: Want breaks, cycles and a history of sessions? The pomodoro timer does all of that automatically.

Questions

Why is 25 minutes used for focus?

It comes from the pomodoro technique: short enough to start easily and long enough to make progress. Adjust it if a different length suits you.

Does the 25 minute timer keep going in a background tab?

Yes. It measures elapsed time against your device clock rather than counting ticks, so browser throttling in a background tab cannot slow it down. Keep the tab open for the alarm to sound.
